The new moon was at 6:58 this morning. As per Juaquin's instructions, we were to give all the beds a good soak before the new moon (biodynamic principle).
So yesterday morning, upon reflecting on how long it would take to water our 6 garden areas (a total of 6,000sq'), and being reminded by Dave (Lo de Marco volunteer) that the water shuts off around 6:00pm in San Pancho (to preserve water at night, due to the voluminous amount of leakage in the town water system!), we made the decision to start watering right away.
A good decision it was, as it took from 10:00am to 7:30PM to properly water all the beds. We only have three hoses, two remaining working sprinklers and only three water sources with very low pressure.
La luna nueva fue a las 6:58 de esta mañana. Bajo las instrucciones de Juaquín, le dimos una buena empapada a todas las camas antes de la nueva luna (principio biodinámico).
Así que ayer por la mañana, después de reflexionar sobre el tiempo que tomaría regar las 6 áreas de jardín (un total de 6,000 pies cuadrados, 560 m2), y siendo recordado por Dave (voluntario de Lo de Marcos) que en San Pancho dejan de surtir agua después de las 6:00 pm (para preservar agua por la noche, debido a la gran cantidad de fugas en el sistema de agua del pueblo!), hicimos la decisión de empezar a regar enseguida.
Fue una buena decisión, ya que tomó desde las 10:00 am a las 7:30 pm regar apropiadamente todas las camas. Sólo tenemos tres mangueras, nos quedan dos regadores funcionales y sólo tres fuentes (llaves) de agua con muy poca presión.
We started using a different sprinkler head, and have been watering from the outside of the fence line, thus avoiding dragging hoses across the beds (and damaging plants!), and having to walk in super muddy paths. Since our fences are made with old fishnets and attached to the fence posts with hooks, it is easy to lower the fence to the ground to make way for the water spray. Watering made easy...
Our first vegetable sales yesterday yielded $270 pesos, and only 5 unsold bags were given away in the evening to friends strolling down Avenida Tercer Mundo.
Empezamos a utilizar un regador distinto (rehilete), irrigando desde fuera de la línea del cerco, así evitamos arrastrar las mangueras a través de las camas (¡dañando las plantas!), y caminar en los senderos lodosos. Ya que los cercos están hechos con viejas redes de pesca sujetas a los postes por ganchos, es más fácil bajar la cerca al suelo para darle paso al regador. El riego hecho fácil...
Nuestras primeras ventas de legumbres generaron ayer $270 pesos; las 5 bolsas que no se vendieron fueron regaladas a amigos que paseaban por la Avenida del Tercer Mundo por la tarde.

The harvest of basil is increasing daily, so please consider getting garlic and olive oil (and nuts if you can find and/or afford!) and making pesto.
