Lots of new people showed up today, and since we made soil yesterday, we decided to go over the transplanting technique. Again the bottom of each transplanting box gets 1/2'' of finely-sifted horse manure (other cured manure like cow or goat will do as well). The box then gets filled with soil but doesn't need to be packed to a perfectly smooth and flat surface like for a seed box (because soil will be disturbed by the transplanting knife).
Mucha gente nueva se apareció hoy, y como preparamos mucha tierra ayer decidimos repasar la técnica del trasplante. Nuevamente, el fondo de cada caja de trasplante recibe 1/2'' de un compuesto rico y esponjoso, que nutra y absorba agua, en este caso una mezcla de composta y estiércol de caballo (pasados por malla); también se puede usar puro estiércol sea de caballo, vaca o chivo. Encima se rellena con tierra, la que habíamos preparado antes (1:1:1) y se compacta ligeramente, sin necesidad de aplanar perfectamente pues de todos modos se removerá la superficie durante el trasplante.
The first thing is to break the edge of the square of seedlings you want to transplant (remember that a seed box can have 8, 12 or more varieties of seeds).
Lo primero que se debe hacer es delimitar el cuadro o área de la planta con la que se está trabajando, recuerden que cada caja puede tener 8, 12 ó más tipos de plantas. Para ello se usa el tenedor de jardín (el chico de mano), insertándolo perpendicular a la superficie en toda la línea a separar.
With a 3 prong hand fork, the soil and seedlings are lifted and dropped on a wet rag to separate the plants.
Se vuelve a insertar el tenedor, pero ahora para levantar una masa de tierra y plántulas, dejándola caer sobre sobre un trapo mojado y así conseguir desmoronar el agregado.

Seedlings separate pretty easily due to the homogenous soil they are planted in (roots are not grabbing to anything). Soil is also a bit on the dry side, not being watered the previous day, to facilitate even more.

Seedling are carefully arranged on a wet rag, and are preferably handled by the leaves or cotyledons - the embryonic first leaves of a seedling - (stem and roots bruise easily). A seedling bundle is then created (the date of transplant is written on plant tag).

The fun then begins! Many hands got to practice today, and an old transplanting table found at the abandoned Vivero came in very handy!

After a box is finished, it gets dunked in a tub of water. The box is left to float for 15-20 seconds, until water saturates the bottom half of the box.
Una vez terminada la caja, se remoja en una tina de agua. Se deja flotando por unos 15 a 20 segundos, para saturar con agua la mitad inferior de la tierra.
Boxes then get watered with a fine midst. After this, the transplanting boxes will not get watered for several days. The wet surface gets hot in the sun and will draw the moisture up from the bottom of the box, the manure acting like a sponge.
A continuación las cajas se riegan con un fino rocío. Después de ello no se requiere regar las cajas por varios días. La superficie húmeda se caliente con el sol y jala la humedad de la parte inferior; el fondo con estiércol funciona como esponja y retenedora de agua.
